Testing & Compliance
Independently Certified. Transparently Tested.
SprintPlay® playground turf systems are third-party certified and lab tested to recognized safety and material standards. Below is a quick summary of what that means—and the certificates and reports you can download.
IPEMA Certifications (ASTM Performance)
SprintPlay Optimum and Elite playground turf systems are independently certified to meet—often exceed—ASTM impact performance standards at their stated fall heights when installed to specification.
How certification works (who does what):
- IPEMA administers the certification program for playground surfacing.
- TÜV SÜD America, serving as IPEMA’s independent certification body, performs the testing/validation and issues certificates to the relevant standards.
- The certificates confirm that our configurations meet the g-max and HIC performance requirements defined in ASTM F1292.
Systems covered (example configurations include 4', 5', 6', 8', 10', and 12' critical heights):
- SprintPlay Optimum: SBR and foam attenuation options
- SprintPlay Elite: SBR and foam attenuation options

In short: IPEMA certification by TÜV SÜD America confirms SprintPlay systems achieve the required impact performance at the certified fall heights.
Playground Safety with IPEMA
In the interest of playground safety, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) provides a Third Party Certification program whereby a designated independent laboratory, TÜV SÜD America Inc. (TÜV), validates a surfacing manufacturer’s certification of compliance to ASTM F1292, Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation Under and Around Playground Equipment Performance Criterion (in its entirety).
ASTM F2075, Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment; and for a Loose Fill Rubber manufacturer its certification of compliance, also to ASTM F3012, Standard Specification for Loose Fill Rubber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface under and around Playground Equipment.

Firefly Laboratory Testing (Material Safety)
SprintPlay components are evaluated by accredited labs for material safety using widely recognized methods. Here’s what each test checks and why it matters:
EN 71-3 — Migration of Certain Elements
Checks: That trace metals do not migrate out of materials at levels of concern.
Why it matters: Reduces potential exposure to heavy metals in children’s environments (e.g., lead, mercury, arsenic).
SprintPlay result: Pass for tested components.
Download:
ASTM F3188 — Extractable Hazardous Metals
Checks: Eight specific metals (e.g., lead, cadmium, chromium) remain below strict limits under simulated stomach-acid conditions.
Why it matters: Validates low extractable metals for contact scenarios.
SprintPlay result: Pass; measured values well below limits.
Download:
ASTM F3496 — PAH8 Content
Checks: The total of eight priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH8) in system materials.
Why it matters: PAHs are monitored because some can be harmful at high levels.
SprintPlay result: Pass—total PAH8 within allowable limits.
Download:
EPA Method 1633 — PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)
Checks: 40 PFAS compounds using a highly sensitive analytical method.
Why it matters: Confirms whether PFAS are detected above laboratory reporting limits.
SprintPlay result: Not detected above reporting limits in the tested samples.

System-Level Compliance (Full Build-Ups Tested)
Beyond individual material analyses, SprintPlay Optimum and Elite playground systems have been fully tested as complete playground surfacing systems—turf + attenuation + infill—to verify compliance with the standards listed above when applicable
- Turf variations: SprintPlay Optimum and Elite.
- Attenuation options: SBR attenuation layer or Brock PowerBase® foam pad.
- Infill: Envirofill®.
The system component documents here confirm that the integrated assemblies used for playgrounds—turf, attenuation, and infill together—were evaluated and comply with the cited standards.
